Not all fun and games

As proof our lives are not all beach and play, allow me to describe the past couples days for you. Crew threw up Saturday night and has had problems on his lower end all Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, but hopefully not today! Not only do I have to please a sick little boy, California just went through a massive heat wave and our cozy little apartment felt like a sauna! The poor wall unit just can't keep up with 103! Matt came down with the flu too Tuesday morning so all three of us have been stuck in our toasty apartment. I also feel like a cave dweller because we keep all the windows covered to keep as much heat out as possible. Let's not forget to mention I have done four loads of laundry in three days (it is hard to keep up with the flu) which is $9 in quarters. Let's just say it has been a long start to the week! Here is a picture of my sick boys sleeping on the floor (heat rises so this was as cool as it got). I can't help but just laugh at our pathetic state!
On the plus side... I have somehow managed to dodge this bullet so far! I have used almost an entire thing of soft soap in three days but it does make it a little easier when I feel good. Also, we are suppose to be back in the low 80s today! Maybe we won't have to be cave dwellers the rest of the week!

The Races and the Waites

Last Friday was "Free Day" at the Santa Anita Race track in Arcadia so we decided to hit it up after Matt was done at school. It was really fun! Luckily, it wasn't very busy so we were able to find a spot away from most of the smokers (kind of a sketchy crowd), and cheer on the races.

We made it for three races. The horse I picked once finished third and the horse Matt picked finished last. It is a good thing weren't making these bets official!

Crew thought every horse was a winner!

Another bonus to "free day," dollar hot dogs and popcorn.

Saturday we met up with the Waites for a day of beach and fun. Rachel and I grew up together and it was really fun to spend the day with them. We went to Thousand Steps beach in Laguna. I don't quite think it was a thousands steps but my calves are definitely sore this morning from walking up all those stairs yesterday. I am getting weak in my old age!

The beach was so awesome! Not too many people want to walk all those stairs so it wasn't very crowded and it was beautiful!Crew practicing for Baywatch

Rachel and I. She pulls off the glamorous beach look much better than I do!

Crew loves having races at the beach but he always cheats and starts before the "GO!"

Rachel and Willie psyching Myles up for the race
After the beach we went to Red Mango. It is like Pinkberry but I must say it is better! It was delicious! Well, the bites that Crew let me have were delicious.

Matt and Willie went surfing while Ray and I played with the boys at the park and at their house. They really had fun together and all in all it was a great day!

Thanks Waites for a fantastic Saturday!

Easter Weekend

Crew started off not too sure about this whole Easter and Easter Bunny thing. But he warmed quickly to the whole idea as the weekend progressed. He did give the Easter Bunny a high five before we left but he still didn't seem to trusting. Saturday morning our ward had a 5K "Beat the Bishop" race around the Rose Bowl. It was really fun. Someone in my ward emailed me these pictures but here is team Allen at the starting line.
This picture is really embarrassing but we beat the bishop! Crew was our secret weapon!
That night we went with some other families to the Griffith Park Observatory. I know I have raved about this place before but it is seriously awesome! Crew and Talli enjoying the sunset.

Crew woke up Easter morning and found his Easter basket. He was really into Easter now!
Then we made our Easter breakfast. I can't make anything these days without my little helper. For Easter we got him his own pots and pans but I guess nothing beats helping mom.
The whisk is his weapon of choice
I really wish I would have taken a picture of Crew before church but it didn't happen. He looked very similar to how he looked at Katherine's wedding but I can't get over how handsome he is in his little suit! After church we went to the Townsend's for an Easter Egg hunt and dinner. There backyard was so perfect for the kids! Crew loved the tramp and all the running room! Whitney we are planning on lots of visits when you are living there this summer!
Crew with his loot!
Happy Easter!

Brutsch's and the Choo Choo Monga!

Last Thursday was an exceptionally exciting day for us! We got to meet up with the Brutsch's in Rancho Cucamonga since they were staying somewhat close by in Big Bear with family for the weekend. It was an afternoon full of fun that began with the boys hitting up a ride on the Choo Choo Monga.
Crew and Cason were big fans

This visit was especially exciting because we got to meet 4 week old Luci! She is absolutely beautiful and we were so happy that we finally got to meet her.Crew and Cason may be forced to be friends but I think they don't really mind. They really did play pretty well together especially at dinner when they raced cars back and forth across the dinner table. Such cute boys!

Lauren and her mountain man

This picture really sums up Ben and Matt's relationship. Always laughing and having a great time.

The whole gang at dinner minus sweet little Luci
We miss them all so much but feel so grateful for their friendship! We love you Brutsch's!

Laguna Beach

Last Saturday we took a day trip down to Laguna Beach with the Adcox family. Laguna is about an hour away, if you are able to miss traffic, and it is really a spectacular spot! I loved the cliffs, palm trees and all the beautiful flowers lining the coast. We had a fantastic day!
Crew and I above the cliffs
Josh and Jamie's little girl Zoie is about 6 months younger than Crew but they have a lot of fun together. Crew loves having someone following him around and laughing at everything he does! Here they are practicing their surf moves.
Crew is really entering the question phase right now. "Where are we going mom?" "What is that mom?" "Where did Doc go mom?" It is so funny to hear him ask questions and sometimes I can't believe he is only two. While we were at the beach, Matt grabbed a boogie board and started out when Crew asked "Going surfing Dad?"
Matt said "yes Crew I am."
Crew "Are you surfing over there?"
Matt "Yeah Crew"
Crew "Ok, have fun dad!"
His little conversations with us are so funny!
Crew showing off some of his moves for Zoie

At the beach, anything goes.... chips and juice, quite the lunch!
Family pic
Sometimes I wish we could just do the beach everyday. Crew is so easy because he is in heaven!
I really do love living here right now and I think Crew would have to agree. Who needs a house and money when you have the beach close by! :)
